Working Group for Business & Enterprise Modelling

                    Wed, 18 Feb 2004 17:12:58 +0200

Investment in ICT support systems has become a key, enabling strategy of many manufacturers in their migration towards lean manufacturing into well-integrated value chains. Highly successful as this has already been, the emphasis has so far tended to be on supporting localized functionalities (eg scheduling, planning, customer support systems, human resources) rather than addressing the overall issue of creating lean, effective business processes which may be brought together into a total system for overall optimization.

The EU has now asked the SIM-SERV partners to take a look at the state-of-art surrounding modeling, simulation and optimization of total businesses, or enterprises with a view to creating a perspective on future simulation developments needed. This challenge will be met by forming an expert working group to discuss the issues involved and to move towards a written position statement.

This working Group will be convened on Wednesday 10th March at City University, London. The meeting will be open to all and for invited guests travel costs will be covered. More details and an agenda are available from dave.boland@sim-serv.com

Simulation of Continuous & Hybrid Processes

                    Wed, 18 Feb 2004 17:12:35 +0200

In the new era of global competition in most areas of manufacturing, there has developed an unprecedented emphasis on product development, cost, customization, market responsiveness, etc, which demands, new agile approaches underpinned by ICT. One of the key enabling tools now emerging is the use of formal modeling and simulation approaches in almost all areas of manufacturing and business processes and activities. This is a prerequisite for the development of advanced measurement/diagnostics and control/decision making techniques for such processes and problems.

Traditionally, modeling and simulation has found outlet into manufacturing plants either in the form of discrete event or continuous treatments. The EU has now asked the SIM-SERV project partners to take a closer look at these areas with a view to confirming present state of art and identifying key areas for future R&D. The requirement is to produce Roadmap documents for use in future strategic planning.

The present note is to advise that a first roadmapping meeting for modeling and simulation of continuous and hybrid processes and related aspects on measurement/diagnostics and control/decision making, is now planned for Tuesday 9th March at City University, London. The meeting will be open to all and for invited guests travel costs will be covered. More details and an agenda are available from dave.boland@sim-serv.com

    SIM-BENEFITS Working Group Kick-Off Meeting

                    Thu, 29 Jan 2004 13:50:23 +0200

Working Group #5: Quantitative Benefits of Simulation (SIM-BENEFITS)

Meeting will be on February 25, 2004 in Frankfurt.

    Meeting topic:

The SIM-BENEFITS Working Group will concentrate on a special service which Sim-Serv is currently developing: a data base of successful simulation applications. The aim of this data base is to collect reliable information on cost and benefits of using simulation in different application areas, We expect that such a data base will enable us to provide potential users of simulation with average figures on the benefits of simulation (e.g. “Simulation applied on area x to a company belonging to industry sector y has produced an average benefit of z Euro”). Such information may be very helpful to convince new customers.

For further information please see the working group section of Sim-Serv web site.

                    Thu, 29 Jan 2004 10:29:24 +0200

Working Group #6: Enhancing Service Concepts for Simulation Project Delivery (SISECO)

Meeting will be on February 24, 2004 in Frankfurt.

    Meeting topic:

Sim-Serv has been offering its services to its members and to potential users of simulation technologies for approx. 2 years now. In this Working Group we want to present to you the experience gained so far, and a number of ideas for new and improved services of Sim-Serv: We would like to discuss with you about the relevance and attractivity of these services, and how they can best be offered. We also need to discuss how they can be offered and improved at the post-project phase.
