Short description of the project
Kuusakoski Oy supplies and refines industrial recycled metal. The cast aluminium alloys are produced by mixing melted recycle aluminium with pure aluminium to get needed product purity. At Heinola aluminium refinery problems were occurred by varying raw material. Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) was used to optimise the raw material usage and to manage the recipe mixture ratio.

Soft Benefits
N/A
Public quantitative benefits
The benefits included 2 % (1 M€) savings in raw material costs and the increase of recycle raw material usage from 35 % of total aluminium usage to 50 %. The savings were resulted in by savings in recycled raw material costs and reduced amount of too impure batches that need to be rehandled.
