Short description of the project
Software to solve trimm-loss problems ( trimm-loss of about 4 %), occured in converted paper production site, was needed. The selected solution optimises all the orders (the amount of raw paper and the size of reels) and the way the product reels are produced (which macine to use, how to cut etc.) by using MIP optimisation. The profit was increased as well as the production output (Reference: Westerlund, T. and Isaksson J., Some efficient formulations for the simultaneous solution of trim-loss and scheduling problems in the paper-convertinf industry, Chemical Engineering Research and Design 76 (1998) 677-684).
Soft Benefits
N/A
Public quantitative benefits
The optimisation resulted in savings of 1,7 Million euro/ year due to reduced amount of trimm-losses. The capacity increase was about 12.5 %
