WG#10 Simulation of Traffic and Transportation Systems

Topic The design and management of transportation systems and traffic (urban as well as regional or even European wide) include a number of very challenging problems. Optimal design and management of such systems have a tremendous influence on economic performance, service provision and general quality of life. It is therefore important to develop modelling and simulation techniques especially for this area.
Goals

To survey state of the art and identify challenges for future developments of simulation techniques for traffic and transportation. Especially:

  • To analyse which design and management problems of traffic can be addressed by simulation technology
  • To survey state of the available technologies and their current application
  • To promote use of simulation and make potential users aware of its benefits
  • To identify needs and options for future research and improved applications
  • To stimulate RTD projects addressing the identified needs
